"IDENTITY " - Photography Series

-This series was exhibited at Glidon Road - Ealing college

This series captures the tension between anonymity and individuality, exploring the complex layers of identity that we navigate in our daily lives. Set in the bustling streets of Soho, London, the photographs evoke a surreal narrative where three figures, each donning a different mask—a skull, a rabbit, and a Venetian—become symbolic representations of the human experience. These masks blur the line between internal and external identity, hiding vulnerability and exposing the rawness of our multifaceted selves.

The skull, a haunting reminder of mortality, confronts the rabbit, whose posture suggests a moment of surrender, while the rabbit’s delicate, flowing fabric hints at fragility and resistance. The Venetian mask, often associated with concealment and mystery, reflects the persona we project to the outside world, a shield protecting our innermost selves. These figures move through the urban landscape, navigating power dynamics, societal expectations, and the struggles of self-actualization.

The use of Harajuku-inspired fashion, juxtaposed with these traditional masks, challenges the conventions of personal expression, highlighting the tension between individualism and conformity. The texture of the images, printed and rephotographed with the added layer of paper, further emphasizes the fragility of the identities we craft and the masks we wear, suggesting that behind each facade lies an intricate, often fragmented reality.

"Identity" is a visual exploration of the human condition, where identity is both constructed and distorted, shaped by both external forces and the internal battle for authenticity. It is a meditation on the struggle to find freedom within a society that often demands conformity, and the vulnerability that lies beneath the masks we wear.
